Student-Led Conferences

Why Student-Led Conferences are successful?
1. Students take responsibility for their learning in both academics and habits of character
2. Students show insights about themselves as learners
3. Students discuss academics with their parents in a positive and proactive way
4. Students hone their verbal communication and critical thinking skills
5. Students build open relationships with their families about school progress
6. Students learn how to substantiate a claim with evidence

February 19th

This week was a very busy week. We all were extremely excited to start our simulation involving our class government. We have to senators from each table. Each table is a different branch like: the Executive Branch, Judicial Branch, or the Legislative Branch. Our president is working hard on his campaign he promised. The Vice President and Secretary of State also have been hard at work. I am sure they will be successful.
We also just received the new laptops. Everyone loves it. Since it is touch screen and it can rotate a 180 degrees. We do our classwork on their. Lately we were studying citizenship. All of us are taking a test about the US, to see if we are a true citizen.
In literacy we started new novel study groups. Mrs. Doolittle laid out the books on the ground and told us to pick one. Although their were some small arguments, I am pretty sure we are all happy with our choices. I cannot forget math time. Lately we have been working on a Mid Module assessment. We are already halfway through the module.
This was our week. It was exciting but busy. We had many things to do. I don't think we will ever get bored again. By Eshma

February 11, 2016

This week…. Our class elected a class president, a vice president, and a secretary of state. We also elected senators for each branch. Our government simulation will last for 2 weeks, we might lengthen it if it is going well. We also are finishing up our journal entry drawings.  We are also making books for them that look like they were made 200 years ago to put our drawings of our fictional characters and writing in.

Headphones

Dear Parents,
On Friday, February 12th we will be a 1:1 Chrome Book Classroom. To aide in learning please allow your child to bring headphones or earbuds to school. These can stay in their backpacks or they can leave a set at school. I'd recommend either a name on them or a small baggie with a name will work. These are considered personal items and should not be shared. A low cost option is the dollar store.

Many Thanks,
Laura
