What are "Sharing Journals"?

Dear Parents,

Your children are bringing home "sharing journals".  They write one entry each Friday and your job is to respond and give these back to them for the following Monday. This is to open communication channels and hopefully find a new voice in your child you may not have heard. As your child continues their development you may find a journal works great to keep conversation flowing, comfortable, etc. Either parent or both can write back. I strongly encourage you to make this "sharing journal" important in your lives. It also serves as an entry into seeing them as "writers".

This is the second week of school and I'm here to tell you about it. This week all of the fifth grade got assigned a math teacher that aren't always our normal teacher's they are usually one of the other four fifth grade teachers. This week Ms. Doolittle finished The end of the beginning which is a small book about a snail and an ant. One Surprising thing is we are still having cutting problems in the fifth grade. Another thing that happened this week is we started Junior Achievement which is a group of lessons on working  so that when we go to Biz Town(where kids are adults for a day)  we will be all right. We really learned about Responsibility and how to be responsible by making a few class agreements. That was what happened in the second week of school.

Week 1

This was the first week of School everyone is nervous and exited Mrs Doolittle has bean teaching us about World issues such as the Syria immigration and how a 9 year old got sperated from his family and American History such as the  plane crash attacks of 9-11 in New York and Washington DC. She also has bean saying "this is a we not an I class". She had us take a 20 page math test (very hard) and a simple 2 page math test. She had more then one opportunity for us to write about us or a topic that we feel strong about and we have written a poem about us. We are working on the character trait of Compassion and that is why she told us about 9-11 and Syria. Mrs Doolittle has also tried to make us feel ok and safe at school we had recently had a project where we had picked items abut us and tell the class about yourself. We have been informed that we will start prepping for Biz-town which is a class city we will have a Doolittle representative and a representative from every class like the Presidential election the citizens will vote for the candidates and the candidate with the most votes will be Biz-Town Mayor everyone will have a job in government by election or not like a city council will be chosen like the mayorship another field trip is Outdoor school where we go out in the woods for 4 days.
